“Alfred Brendel. Musician and Human Being”

On 5 January of this year, maestro Alfred Brendel celebrated his 85th birthday – as powerful and fresh as ever and with the wink of a philosopher who is equally attuned to the serious and the unserious, and not just in music. Which is reason enough to portray this outstanding pianist and musician in a way that demonstrates his many levels of skill and achievement as an artist and as a human being. Brendel’s performances of the works of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert have shaped how we listen to and think about their music in different and new ways. The young, sometimes impetuously thrilling Brendel will also be explored, as will a bit of his work as a poet and writer who has transferred the rhythm of music into language. This promises to be an entertaining event.
