    Special Event Day – Panel

Konstantia Gourzi | Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla | Michael Haefliger

“Women on the Podium! The End of a Male Preserve?” (in German)
A round-table discussion with the conductors Konstantia Gourzi and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, and Festival Executive and Artistic Director Michael Haefliger
    Gabriela Kaegi moderator

Female pianists, violinists, and composers have long been regarded as “normal” in the concert hall. No one today would want to deny a young woman entree into these disciplines. And yet there remains one essentially male domain in the music world: the domain of orchestral conducting. Female conductors continue to be considered an exception. Indeed, the more famous the ensemble, the less often a woman is seen at the podium. But why is this? Is the profession of conducting, which simultaneously represents a symbol of the exercise of power, not compatible with current role models? Are women not trusted with leadership? Are they rejected by the orchestras (which are mostly male dominated)? Are they less marketable? Or do they simply lack a lobby and a network? And what needs to be done to change the situation? These are the issues that will be discussed by Gabriela Kaegi from Swiss Radio and Television along with Konstantia Gourzi and Festival Director Michael Haefliger.
All is at family-friendly prices: no concert costs more than 50 CHF, and if you reserve tickets for a minimum of three performances you’ll also get a discount of 20% and a free ticket for your children. See Order Form
