Russian baritone Vasily Ladyuk studied choral conducting at the Moscow Academy of Choral Arts before taking Dmitry Vdovin’s class in solo voice between 2001 and 2004. He began his career by winning three important competitions: in 2004 he won the Concurso Francisco Vinas, followed in 2005 by first prize at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia and at the Shizuoka Opera Competition in Japan. After beginning with the Ensemble of the Novaya Opera of Moscow, Ladyuk was engaged by Bolshoi Theater in 2007; in the same year he made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 2009 came his first appearance at La Scala in Milan and in 2010 his Houston Grand Opera debut. He has also performed at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, at the Paris Opera, and at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. Vasily Ladyuk’s repertoire includes not only the great Russian baritone roles but characters from Mozart, Verdi, Donizetti, and Leoncavallo as well.
