Vita

The ensemble musicAeterna, which comprises an orchestra and a chorus, was founded in Novosibirsk in 2004 by Teodor Currentzis with the goal of covering a broad repertoire that ranges from the Baroque up into the present. From 2011 until 2019, the ensemble was headquartered at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater (near the Urals), where it performed annually in a number of productions. Since September 2019 it has been working  independently and financed by the private sector. musicAeterna has developed in recent years into a genuine major export. Together with Teodor Currentzis, the orchestra and chorus have performed in Vienna, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Brussels, Lisbon, Helsinki, Moscow, and St. Petersburg, and, at the invitation of the Berlin Philharmonic, in the latter’s hall at the Philharmonie. Opera productions have taken them to the Ruhrtriennale, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and the Festspielhaus Ba-den-Baden. They also enjoy a close partnership with the Salzburg Festival, where musicAeterna made its debut in 2017 with Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito; with Currentzis, the ensemble will return there in coming years to perform Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and Bach’s B minor Mass. At the beginning of 2019, the ensemble undertook its first Japanese tour, and later this year comes its debut in New York with Verdi’s Requiem. musicAeterna has premiered a number of new works, including Dmitri Kourliandski’s opera Nosferatu, Philippe Hersant’s Tristia, and Alexei Syumak’s one-act Cantos. The ensemble and Currentzis have released many recordings in recent years, including their highly touted Mozart-Da Ponte cycle comprising Le nozze di Figaro (2013), Così fan tutte (2014), and Don Giovanni (2016). For these and other recordings, they have received the German Record Critics’ Prize, the Echo Klassik, and the Diapason d’or.
