The British soprano Esther Brazil was born in the United States and grew up in China, Singapore, and Australia. She initially studied philosophy and theology at Queen’s College in Oxford before taking up vocal training with Anne Howells at the Academy of Music in London. She is currently studying under Susan Roberts. As a soloist she has performed with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the London Handel Orchestra. Together with John Eliot Gardiner and his ensembles she took part in the Bach Marathon at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2013, and in the fall of 2014 she sang Bach’s Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut in concerts in Pisa, London, Cologne, Vienna, and Paris. Among Brazil’s recordings are settings of the Dixit Dominus by Handel, Scarlatti, and Vivaldi with the ensemble La Nuova Musica. She is a founding member of Oxford Baroque.
