Program for 2019
In his fourth year as Music Director of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA, Riccardo Chailly will devote himself to Russian symphonic music, with works by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Also on the agenda is Gustav Mahler’s shattering Sixth Symphony. A work known as the Tragic that depicts the power of fate with spectacular hammer blows, it is close to the heart of Chailly, an avowed Mahlerian. But for a fourth program by the Orchestra we have invited a guest to the podium: the Canadian Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who will conduct Beethoven (with “artiste étoile” Leonidas Kavakos as soloist) and Shostakovich.
