Program for 2019

LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA | Bernard Haitink © Stefan Deuber/LUCERNE FESTIVAL

In his fourth year as Music Director of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA, Riccardo Chailly will devote himself to Russian symphonic music, with works by Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky. Also on the agenda is Gustav Mahler’s shattering Sixth Symphony. A work known as the Tragic that depicts the power of fate with spectacular hammer blows, it is close to the heart of Chailly, an avowed Mahlerian.
