What concentrated expertise in contemporary music! Every summer, about 100 young, talented musicians travel to Lucerne to devote themselves exclusively to works of the 20th and 21st centuries:

music about which they are passionate and to which they are entirely dedicated. The LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY is a master school at the highest level, a place for creative exchange, a musical think tank. Nowhere else is there anything comparable. Under the guidance of renowned new music specialists, the participants rehearse orchestral, ensemble, and chamber concerts. The program also offers the Composer Seminar with Wolfgang Rihm, the Academy’s Artistic Director. In the summer of 2019, the Academy students will encounter composer-in-residence Thomas Kessler; work with composer and conductor Sir George Benjamin, and, for the frst time, with Riccardo Chailly; and unveil two brand-new orchestral pieces by Marianna Liik and Josep Planells Schiaffino. They will also look back to the beginnings of the avant-garde with music by Schoenberg and Mosolov, and they will focus as well on works by Rihm, Benjamin, and Dieter Ammann.
