Markus Hongler was born in 1957 and received his degree in insurance underwriting from the Lucerne General Agency branch of the Swiss Mobiliar Insurance Group Company. After four years with Genevoise in Geneva, he transferred to Zurich Financial Services in 1983. While there Markus Hongler held various management positions both at home and abroad; from 1996 to 2000 he was a member of the Management Board of Zurich Switzerland; in 2001 he took on directorship of industrial business in Europe for a five-year term. He then served for three years as CEO of the company’s Swiss business, most recently overseeing the European non-life insurance department. Since 2011 Markus Hongler has served as CEO of Mobiliar.
