Martin Grubinger (percussion)

Martin Grubinger (Felix Broede)

Born in 1983, Austrian multipercussionist Martin Grubinger studied at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and at the Mozarteum in his native Salzburg. He soon gained attention through international competitions and with spectacular appearances, such as his performance at the Beethovenfest in Bonn in September 2006 in a major project, “The Percussive Planet.” In November of that same year he appeared in a marathon of six percussion concerts at the Vienna Musikverein, which included two world premieres of works specifically composed for him. Martin Grubinger has meanwhile performed throughout Europe at renowned festivals and events. In the 2007-08 season, the European Concert Hall Organization named him a “Rising Star” and booked him for concerts at Cologne’s Philharmonie, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Megaron in Athens, and Carnegie Hall in New York. Grubinger was “artist-in-residence” at the Leipzig Gewandhaus in the 2008-09 season; in the summer of 2009 he made his debut with the Salzburg Festival. The 2010 festival season brings appearances at the Heidelberg Spring, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Weimar Art Festival, and the Rheingau Music Festival, among others, as well as at the Salzburg Festival once again, where he performs Wolfgang Rihm’s Tutuguri. As soloist, Martin Grubinger has appeared with such acclaimed orchestras as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and the North German and Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestras. In 2007 he received the “Bernstein Award” at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.
