Amongst Claudio Abbado’s recordings are the complete symphonic works of Beethoven, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Ravel, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev and works
by Verdi, Rossini, Mozart and Wagner. In 2000 the complete edition of the Beethoven Symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic was released, receiving great critical acclaim,
as did the Beethoven Piano Concertos, based on a series of live recordings in Rome and Vienna.
His recordings have received the most prestigious awards: the International Grammy Award, the "Grand Prix International du Disque", the "Diapason d'or", the Record Academy Prize, the "Stella d'oro", the "Orphée d'or" and the "Grand Prix de la Nouvelle Académie".
Claudio Abbado has received numerous awards and honours, including the Freud Prize, the International Gustav Mahler Society Gold Medal, the "Ehrenring" (1973), the Wiener Philharmoniker Nicolai Gold Medal (1980), the "Mozart Medaille", the "Mahler Medaille", the "Schubert Medaille", and the "Ehrenring" from the City of Vienna and the "Grosses Goldenes Ehrenzeichen" from the Austrian Republic.
