The acclaimed tour featuring "Pli selon pli" ended on 2 October 2011 at the Royal Festival Hall in London's South Bank Center as a part of the Shell Classic International Series. This performance concluded the tour across six major European cities. Now 86, Pierre Boulez himself conducted, as he had done in Lucerne, where he led in-depth rehearsals of his great homage to the poet Mallarmé. Once again, soprano Barbara Hannigan and musicians from the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY as well the Ensemble intercontemporain gave outstanding performances of this great work. Following their performance as part of LUCERNE FESTIVAL in Summer 2011, an additional ten thousand concertgoers were able to experience "Pli selon pli" ("Fold by Fold"), one of Boulez's major works, which he began composing in 1957 and completed in the 1980s.
The concerts given during this tour took place in Turin (the Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli-Lingotto), Milan (the Conservatory), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Paris (the Salle Pleyel), Munich (the Prinzregententheater), and London (Royal Festival Hall).
Following tours to Essen and to Mito, Japan in 2007, as well as to Paris and New York in 2008, this marked the fifth tour undertaken by the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY, which Boulez founded in 2003.
