Manuel de Falla (1876-1946)
“Master Peter’s Puppet Show”
“This man is a great puppet player who has been traveling for a long time up and down these parts, performing a show in which Melisendra is wooed by the famous Don Gayferos,” writes Miguel de Cervantes in his novel “Don Quixote”—in the passage describing Master Peter. And Master Peter is not alone: Countless children accompany the puppet player, but he treats them with far less love than he does his characters. For his brief operatic treatment of this tale, Manuel de Falla wrote wonderfully clever and vivid music. The LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY and the Young series present a staged performance for children and adults who are not fond of tidying up after playing.
A co-production of LUCERNE FESTIVAL and the Theater Basel
