“If Apollo were to play the violin instead of lute, it would sound exactly like this,” wrote the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” in praise of the Apollon Musagète Quartet, which takes its name from the Greek god of the arts. The ensemble’s four musicians come from Poland but graduated from the Vienna University of Music. In 2008, just two years after they had founded their quartet, they were victors at the International ARD Music Competition, winning not only first prize but almost all the special awards. And their success story has continued ever since. Last season they appeared in the major concert houses throughout Europe as Rising Stars of the European Concert Hall Organisation; meanwhile they have even established their own chamber music festival, which takes place annually in Goslar. The Quartet makes its Lucerne debut with a program of Austro-Czech music and featuring works in which the festival theme of “Faith” also plays a prominent role.
