“Pollini Perspectives” is the name of a new series that gets to the heart of Maurizio Pollini’s artistic approach. The central idea is to link masterpieces of the past with contemporary music in a meaningful way, so as to open up surprising new perspectives. For example, when Pollini pairs well-known music – in this case, three epochal sonatas from Ludwig van Beethoven’s “heroic” period – with a brand-new score like Giacomo Manzoni’s “Il rumore del tempo,” the radical and revolutionary experience contained in a work long deemed “classical” becomes rekindled anew. And, conversely, Pollini’s intelligent programming reminds his listeners that avant-garde sounds in turn are not utterly new inventions but rather are thoroughly rooted in tradition. The texts set by Manzoni in his new work will be sung by soprano Anna Prohaska, the great discovery of the vocal scene over the last few months – one more compelling reason not to miss this concert.
