“Prologue” for viola (posthumous version with live-electronics, 1976/2001)
The three women involved in this project include violist Anna Spina and the two composers Xu Yi und Katrin Frauchiger. Together they participated in the China 2008–2010 Program sponsored by the Swiss Cultural Foundation Pro Helvetia, thereby developing an intercultural dialogue through musical means. The fourth voice here is that of Michel Roth, who takes on a poem by travel writer Nicolas Bouvier in “Plaie et Douceur,” which describes an evening atmosphere on the borderland between Mongolia and China. The concert ends with a prologue: the first part of the cycle “Les Espaces acoustiques” by Gérard Grisey, which the composer himself has characterized as a tightrope walk between “noise and form.”
