Jacques Demierre: “Chemin de sons”
3. – 18. September 2010 | Chapel Bridge
With its wooden roof like an echo chamber and its wooden floor like a sounding board, the Kapellbrücke acquires a sonority all its own. In his sound installation, Geneva composer and sound artist Jacques Demierre records acoustic events from the bridge’s immediate surroundings—the sounds of wind, water, and traffic, of birds and passersby — and continuously projects these back onto the bridge. Through this special sonic experience, visitors become sensitized to the space which they have entered and come to perceive the much-used Kapellbrücke not only as a place of transition but also of hearing – a “Chemin de sons,” that is, a path of sounds.
