Almost a quarter century ago, in 1986, a young violinist named Michael Haefliger founded the Davos Festival “Young Artists in Concert,” thereby introducing talented young stars from around the world to an international public. This initiative was a double success. Not only did the festival take root, continuing until today (with the 25th performance to be given in 2010): It also launched Michael Haefliger’s meteoric career as an artistic director. To celebrate this anniversary, he has invited some of the young artists discovered in 2009 by Davos’s current artistic director, Graziella Contratto, to perform at Lucerne. These include the Atrium Quartet from Russia, winner of London’s International Quartet Competition in 2003 and of the Bordeaux Competition in France in 2007. Joining them is Israeli pianist Roman Rabinovich, who was born in 1985 and who came to prominence in 2008 as winner of the Rubinstein Competition.
