The magic of the musical moment: during LUCERNE FESTIVAL at the Piano, it’s not to be found only in the concert hall but also “off-stage”—indeed for the tenth time in a row this year. Ten internationally acclaimed masters of improvisation will gather in Lucerne’s most atmospheric bars and restaurants. From blues, boogie-woogie, stride piano, swing, and soul to modern mainstream, they will present the entire panorama of piano jazz, all the while ensuring a thrilling—and relaxing—end to the concert evening. And for the first time this year, Piano Off-Stage will be presented in advance of the Festival in Zurich; you can find detailed information in the Piano Off-Stage program brochure (in German).
We have invited American swing legend Johnny Varro, the great Spanish boogie-woogie master Lluís Coloma, and the long-standing house pianist for the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, Jon Weber. They will be joined by the Italian newcomer Paolo Alderighi, the blues pianist Lisa Otey from Arizona, and Simon Mulligan from Great Britain, who is a sensation not only with his jazz quartet but as a classical pianist. Making their Lucerne debuts are Marque Lowenthal, the musical partner of the singer Lyambiko, and Jérôme De Carli, who together with the old master Robi Weber represents Switzerland. And Jan Eschke from Germany will also appear for the first time in Lucerne: “Excitement to the breaking point” is how the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” has described his virtuoso piano style.
