22 November - 28 November 2010
A Pianistic Summit Meeting
In Lucerne, November always belongs to the pianists – the celebrated virtuosos, the poets and philosophers, the singers at the keyboard. Bernard Haitink and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe will launch their new Brahms cycle with the two piano concertos played by Emanuel Ax – exclusively for LUCERNE FESTIVAL in 2010 and 2011. András Schiff and Evgeny Kissin, Grigory Sokolov and Pierre-Laurent Aimard have been invited to give recitals. Andreas Staier will play Robert Schumann, not on a modern concert grand, but on a period instrument. One of the foremost piano duos of our time will pay us a visit: Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen, offering a fresh take on Bach's Goldberg Variations arranged for two pianos by Joseph Rheinberger and Max Reger. And of course there will also be concert débuts, a night of modern music with Nicolas Hodges, and the 'festival within a festival' – Piano Off-Stage, inviting you to tarry in Lucerne's loveliest cocktail lounges till the wee hours of the morning.
