To accompany the concerts of the Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana Simón Bolívar, LUCERNE FESTIVAL and Lucerne's Stattkino movie theatre will jointly present the award-winning film 'El Sistema'. For more than 30 years José Antonio Abreu in Venezuela has built up the so-called 'Sistema', a network of children's and youth orchestras in which more than 300,000 students now learn to master an instrument. What sounds like a fairy tale is in fact the extraordinary story of a vision that has become reality. This documentary film shows how Abreu's revolutionary ideas reveal a way to escape the vicious circle of poverty in the barios, the slums of Caracas, and how the power of music is beginning to transform a Latin American country.
