A Feast for Curiosity Seekers
LUCERNE FESTIVAL at Easter opens with a cross-generational summit meeting as Claudio Abbado conducts the Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana, the unique South American youth orchestra that has treated us to ravishing concerts in years past. Following this opening flourish the Sinfónica will give two more concerts with Gustavo Dudamel and Diego Matheuz – two phenomenally gifted young conductors with the future at their feet.
And this is only the beginning. The Festival will end in time-honoured fashion with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, recently named one of the world's ten best orchestras by a poll of international critics. The focus will fall on Bruckner as Bernard Haitink and Daniel Harding conduct the Munich orchestra in Lucerne's KKL Concert Hall. But LUCERNE FESTIVAL at Easter would be unthinkable without the Concentus Musicus Wien and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, who will present unusual works by Ludwig van Beethoven. The colourful early music concerts promise to be a veritable feast for curiosity seekers – with find Cecilia Bartoli, the Freiburg BarockConsort, and The King's Consort from London in a performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion.
