Vladimir Jurowski

Vladimi Jurowski (Roman Gontcharov)

Vladimir Jurowski, the son of conductor Michail Jurowski, was born in 1972 in Moscow and began his education at his native city’s conservatory. After his family moved to Germany in 1990 he continued studies with Rolf Reuter and Semion Skigin at the Dresden as well as the Berlin College of Music. He made his international debut at the Wexford Festival conducting Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night in 1995 and appeared later that year at the Royal Opera House in London in Verdi’s Nabucco. In 1997 the Komische Oper in Berlin engaged him as First Kapellmeister; Jurowski held this position until 2001, when he was appointed Music Director of the Glyndebourne Festival, a post he has now held for a decade. His close association with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, which named him Principal Guest Conductor in 2003, led to his appointment as its Principal Conductor in 2007. In addition Jurowski served from 2006 to 2009 as First Guest Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra; he regularly collaborates with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment as Principal Artist. Jurowski has also appeared over the past decade as a guest artist with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, the Dresden Semperoper, La Scala in Milan, and the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie. He has conducted the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Dresden Staatskapelle, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. In the 2010-11 season Jurowski also made his debuts with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. His discography encompasses music from Meyerbeer to Kancheli. In 2007 Jurowski received the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award for Conductor of the Year.
