LUCERNE FESTIVAL has been legally structured as a foundation since 1970. Dr. Hubert Achermann has been its president since 2008, and Michael Haefliger its executive director since 1999 (his contract has been extended to 2016). The festival’s budget amounts to roughly 25 million Swiss francs, of which direct subsidies from the city and canton of Lucerne make up less than three percent. The festival has some thirty employees, some of whom work part-time.
