On 4 March 2009 the Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink celebrated his eightieth birthday. Maestro Haitink has been closely associated with our festival since 1966, when he gave his début at the helm of the Swiss Festival Orchestra. At Easter he will present three concerts to conclude his highly acclaimed Beethoven cycle - the best of all birthday presents for his many fans!
